After strip out of this quiet site in Temple Fortune it was straight back to the drawing board for our team. More often than not buildings throw up a few tricky surprises however here we uncovered original brick walls, incredible height and vintage 1980s encaustic tiles. This Gail’s Bakery project was a conversation with copper, our faceted hung ceiling reflected light from the front deep in to the plan of the shop. Raw hewn Carrara marble tops formed baking surfaces and molten brass was poured in to chases in the original floor, celebrating rather than hiding it’s previous histories. The seating was sourced from the English home counties and based on the experience of dining within a greenhouse; tactile, textural and a bit mismatched albeit with a great view of the busy working bakery.
