The transformation of a former Victorian boot-blacking factory into one of Covent Garden’s most ambitious food and drink destinations marks a significant expansion of the building’s historic narrative. We reimagined the listed structure as a layered hospitality environment, bringing together a food hall, four standalone concepts, bars, kitchens and social spaces under one cohesive identity.

The building’s boot-blacking heritage became a quiet but persistent influence throughout the design. Rich burgundy tones, polished surfaces, and high-gloss oxblood leather seating reference the site’s former life, reinterpreted in a contemporary context that balances grit with refinement.

The brief was simple in intent but complex in delivery: to create a world-class food, drink, and social destination in the heart of Covent Garden. The challenge lay in unifying multiple operators and atmospheres within a listed building, while ensuring the overall experience felt seamless and coherent. The design also draws on the character of Covent Garden itself, as well as its market history, layered identity, and enduring role as one of London’s most dynamic cultural and culinary districts.
