Flat Iron St James is an exploration of delight in utility. The space was imagined as a carpenter’s workshop only slightly altered to fit a Flat Iron restaurant. Sharp raw edges of solid hardwoods form the joinery, often bracing large stone slabs or reclaimed tiles. The light fittings are reclaimed from Belgium, Czech Republic, Sweden and New York. The hazel hues throughout the space are taken from the raw leather tones of the Devon cattle that make up the food on the plates and the hides on the benches. With each and every material carrying a story, the site is an exercise in all-embracing craft.
