St John Neal’s Yard
For St. JOHN’s new home in Neal’s Yard, we worked closely with Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver to evolve the language of the original bakery into something more expansive and sociable. Moving just across the courtyard into a larger, two-storey space, the project marks a natural progression—less a simple bakery and more an intimate bar and bakery hybrid, extending the spirit of St. JOHN into the evening.
Drawing on the familiar restraint of St. JOHN Smithfield and Bread & Wine, the design remains deliberately understated. The all-white backdrop, simple timber furniture and utilitarian detailing create a calm, unpretentious setting that allows the food, wine and atmosphere to take centre stage. Subtle shifts in scale and layout reflect the building’s increased footprint and dual-level arrangement, supporting a more relaxed, lingering way of inhabiting the space.
Tucked away within one of Covent Garden’s most characterful courtyards, St. JOHN Neal’s Yard feels both discreet and quietly generous—a place for bread and custard doughnuts by day, oysters, rosé and conversation by night.
